Responding to a Denial

Step 4: Assure the Facility of the Patient’s Stability

Assuming that the person is medically stable from a bleeding disorders (BD) perspective and does not have any major, active bleeds that require treatment in a hospital setting, it is important to assure the facility of the person’s medical stability. BD SUMHAC has created a template letter that you can revise and send to the facility.

Suggested language:

  • This person is medically stable from a bleeding disorders perspective and does not require any treatment related to their bleeding disorder that would require a hospital setting.

  • Would it be helpful if I got a letter from the patient treatment team to assure the facility that the patient is stable from a bleeding disorders perspective and appropriate for admission?

On this website, the term “behavioral health” includes both mental health and substance use disorder.

Resource Alert!

Below are editable letter templates that can be sent from the BD treatment team to the BH treatment facility regarding the stability of a patient with BD who:

1) Self-infuses

2) Requires assistance for infusions

3) Injects their medication
